Welcome to Generation for Generations
As OPG works to electrify life in one generation, we continue to build meaningful relationships and prioritize partnerships with Indigenous Nations and communities.
In our many ongoing discussions with communities, one of the things we have heard clearly is the growing appetite to learn more about Ontario’s electricity system. How do we generate power in a responsible, safe, and sustainable manner? And what are we planning for the future?
To answer these questions and more, we are happy to present our Generation for Generations program. Here, we hope to provide some more insight into Ontario’s electricity system, its diverse sources of power generation, and the future of the grid. Ultimately, we hope this educational resource can help empower communities to make informed decisions as they set their own path toward a clean energy future.
Miigwetch, Nia:wen, and thank you,

Generation for Generations’ seven stories, Marti the Marten and Morgan the Moose
We chose to call the seven modules within the program “stories”, as storytelling is a deep-seated tradition within Indigenous communities. Storytelling supports the sharing of learnings and aids Community members in preparing future generations. We have approached this program with the same intent, to share knowledge and support Communities in being informed regarding electricity in the future. Storytelling is about guiding and not telling people what to do - we want to provide information that Communities and individuals can use (or not use) as they deem appropriate.

Marti (the adjacent little marten) was designed to be your companion while you navigate the program. Marti will be by your side as you explore the seven stories and provide additional insights and support. Marti was designed by Indigenous artist August Swinson.

Meet Morgan the Moose, a friendly guide that will help with navigating phonetics and pronunciation of key terms throughout the program. Morgan, also designed by August Swinson, is equipped with audio examples at various points in the seven stories.

A journey in seven stories
The Generation for Generations Program is a journey of seven stories to support learning about energy in Ontario. A brief overview of the seven stories is below.
- Introduction - An overview of The Generation for Generations - An Energy Education Program (You are here!)
- Climate Change - The relationship between climate change, Ontario's electricity systems, and actions needed for the future
- Electricity in Ontario - Ontario's electricity sector, the grid, and Ontario's energy mix
- Renewable Power Generation - All about renewable sources of electricity generation: hydroelectric, biomass, solar, and wind power generation
- Nuclear Power Generation - All about how nuclear generating stations work
- Nuclear Waste, Safety, and Security - Waste prevention, management, and storage, and how we keep our nuclear generating stations safe and secure
- Electricity in the Future - The future of electricity and what is being done to help meet Ontario's growing energy needs
Welcome again to the program!
We encourage you to explore the stories at your own pace and in order of your interest.
